Meaningful co-production is at the heart of all we do and by working alongside our team of Volunteer Co-producers, we create inspiring museums built with, and for, the people of Derby.

We believe that the most meaningful partnerships are built upon active involvement, shared values and fun! When you give your time, passion, skills and brilliant ideas as a Volunteer Co-producer here at Derby Museums you’ll gain so much along the way: new skills, confidence, social connections and joy to name but a few.

From regular, longer-term voluntary opportunities to micro-challenges that could take just minutes of your time, you’re sure to find an opportunity to excite you. Plus, should you choose to get involved, we hope you’ll feel really proud in the knowledge that your support will help to keep Derby Museums fantastic and free for everyone.

Our volunteers say:

“Not only have I gained practical skills, I feel better in myself and am part of an open and empowering community. This has had a hugely positive impact on my life.” – Laura, Collections Volunteer

“I love Derby and really enjoy engaging with my community and sharing stories about Derby and Derby folk. I am now able to share my thoughts and ideas with them knowing that they will always listen and consider what I have to say.” – Kalwinder – This is Normanton Research Volunteer

“Each time I arrive at the museum, the welcome I get as a volunteer makes me feel wanted and appreciated and part of something.” – Andrew – FIGMENT Volunteer

“What have I gained through volunteering? It’s the camaraderie whilst working and being part of something bigger than yourself. Apart from making friends, I’d say volunteering has improved my confidence in some areas and affirmed what I can achieve if given the opportunity.” – Steve –
Museum of Making Workshop Volunteer

“I got engaged in the Museum of Making project when moving to Derby with my partner. This project helps us to make lots of friends and get to know Derby. It helps us not only learn wood work but also build trust with local people.“– Sophie – World Collections Volunteer
