Meet a Roman

Your costumed presenter will be in full armour as a Roman soldier! He will train your class to prepare for battle, practise battle skills and make a helmet to aid their victory.

Meet a Viking

Our costumed Viking trader will introduce pupils to the Vikings in Derby and will
re-enact a market and trading voyage.  Pupils will examine examples of Viking life and will participate in a Viking saga.

Meet an Egyptian

Your costumed presenter will guide you through an Egyptian wedding ceremony. Pupils will be asked to dress up and become the characters; the Pharaoh and his wife, and the wedding guests. They will learn about Egyptian life, discuss Gods, try out some Egyptian dancing and take part in ‘Pass the Scarab’.

Meet an Archaeologist

The session begins with an introduction to archaeology. With reference to the Viking dig at Repton, pupils have the opportunity to become trainee archaeologists, learning about the tools and techniques used; geophysical investigations/metal detectors, before taking part in a mock excavation.

WW1- Meet Bert and Agatha

Inspired by actual postcards written by a soldier at the front to his family in Derby, this session explores the changing lives of both men and women during WW1, and the impact of the war upon the nation. Using Museum artefacts and objects, Bert, a soldier and Agatha, a nurse, bring their stories to life. Pupils will have the opportunity to handle original and replica objects.
