Institute of STEAM

Derby Museums’ learning programmes use STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) as an interdisciplinary approach, through which to learn and understand the world and other people. This approach encourages creative, enquiry-based and critical thinking, enabling people to develop the capacities necessary to thrive in the future; to be curious, empathise and innovate – think, feel and do.

Derby Museums frames this interdisciplinary approach to formal and informal learning through The Institute of STEAM, exemplified as a mark of recognition. This provides the opportunity for learners of all ages to develop 21st Century skills for learning, work and society, and enables them to gain recognition of and communicate their skills, competencies and achievements through earning digital badges as verifiable credentials.
