A British Museum Spotlight Loan The Lampedusa Cross will be on display from 12th June until 31st August 2020. Made from the remnants of a boat wrecked near the coast of Lampedusa in 2013, which cost the lives of 311 refugees from Somalia and Eritrea, the Cross was created by the island’s carpenter, Francesco Tuccio.
The Cross acts as a mark of the survivors’ salvation from the sea and their hope for the future as well as the fate of many migrants.
