Derby Mini Maker Faire 2018

We call it the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth – a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness for young and old alike. Come and meet makers from across the country as they show off their amazing creations and discover what you can make!

Entry to Derby Mini Maker Faire is FREE with lots of things to see and do. There will be a fantastic range of both drop-in and pre-bookable workshops available on the day, including the popular Aardman Animator led model-making workshop.

Aardman Animations:  **TICKETS NOW SOLD OUT**
Come and create Feathers McGraw in this Aardman Animator led workshop! Work with a professional model maker from Aardman Animations to create your very own model of villainous penguin Feathers McGraw from the Wallace and Gromit film ‘The Wrong Trousers’. This workshop is designed for adults and children aged 7 upwards. All materials are provided and you will be able to take your handmade Feathers McGraw home with you. £10.50 per person. British Science Association Derbyshire: Join in with a craft activity making new creations out of plastic waste to help raise awareness of the environmental issues around single us plastics. Free and drop in.

Derby Adult Learning Service: Make and decorate an origami notebook. Ideal to use as a diary or to keep lists or give as a gift. Simple yet beautiful. Free and drop in 10am-12noon.

Derby Makers: Have a go at soldering your own flashing badge. Price TBC and drop in.

Ems Genuine Gems: You can have a go at making earrings or key rings with jewellery maker Emma Hallett. A mixture of free and paid for sessions and drop in.

Galactic Plastic: Try this new crafting material that is flexible and non toxic to make things from Robots and Unicorns and Stars and Stickers. Free, drop in session and priced bookable sessions available. Book onto a pendant session here and/or onto a Robot or Unicorn session here.

Hackspace Manchester: Make your own light up PCBEE to take home, with us here to help you every step of the way, and choose if you want it as a badge, keying or necklace. Price TBC and drop in.

Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET): Have a go at electronic makes and write your own code. Free and drop in.

Institution of Mechanical Engineers: Have a go at making a paper car to propel horizontally. Whose will travel furthest? Free and drop in.

JCB Academy: Have a go at the spaghetti tower challenge. Can you build the tallest tower using dried spaghetti and marshmallows? Free and drop in.

Jumping Clay: Come and making colourful models from this amazing air-dry polymer clay. Mess free and non-toxic. Fun for all ages 3+. Free and drop in.

LightWorks Laser Projects: Come and make tea-light lanterns or weave woollen badges. Price TBC and drop in.

Matt Edwards Origami: Try your hand at Origami; A variety of paper models and a demonstration with Matt Edwards. Free and drop in.

Spiral Arts: TWIST your own fabric yarn wristband. Free and drop in.

The Hero Project CIC: Make a ‘What Could I Bird’, THINKing Tool and find out how good you are at pen racing. Price TBC and drop in.

The Smallprint Co: Print a unique letterpress poster in these drop in sessions. Free and drop in.

Tracey Meek: Tracey is an artist based in Derby, working with a range of media, from illustration to ceramics and further sculpture. Tracey will be facilitating a participant led 3D doodle workshop. Free and drop in.
