Lucy Bamford
Senior Curator of Fine Art and the Joseph Wright Collection

Find out all about Lucy and who she is outside of the museum…
- Many of the people that Joseph Wright painted chose to be depicted with an object that tells us something about them as a person. What object would you choose and why?
I often daydream about meeting Wright and, better still, having my portrait painted by him. I would ask him to paint me simply, with my hands on show. I think of my hands as my tools. - If you could be any animal from the Nature Gallery, which would you be and why?
I probably identify most closely with the dormouse, but anything that spends a large amount of its time curled up in a nest asleep (particularly during winter) would also fit the bill. I take sleep very seriously. - What makes you happy?
Walking in wild places with the people I love; pottering in the garden; looking at art; running in large open spaces with a dog; doodling. - What do you love to do in your spare time? (Aside from working at the museum, obviously)
My favourite weekends involve dressing up (often as a man) and travelling back into the 18th century with friends. When someone invents the time machine I’ll be the one camping out at the front of the queue with a packed lunch and flask of tea.
