Eilish Clohessy

Assistant Curator of Making

We had a sit down with Eilish to find out what makes her tick, here is what we discovered…

  1. Many of the people that Joseph Wright painted chose to be depicted with an object that tells us something about them as a person. What object would you choose and why?
It sounds hopelessly millennial of me, but I’d probably pick my phone. It keeps me connected to all the people I care about who live here, there and everywhere; it’s how I listen to music and podcasts when I need to take some time for myself; look up recipes and DIY instructions; take pictures and keep track of where I need to be and when! It’s not so much the device itself, but the way it can help me to sort out all the bits that make me who I am.
  2. If you could be any animal from the Nature Gallery, which would you be and why?
I’ve been told that I’ve got a fair amount of characteristics in common with squirrels (inquisitive, persistent and fidgety) and there’s a lovely red squirrel in the Nature Gallery, so I’ve got to pick that!
  3. What makes you happy?
Coffee, getting enough sleep, meeting up with friends and family and a good gin and tonic (not necessarily in that order)!
  4. What do you love to do in your spare time? (Aside from working at the museum, obviously)
Spending time with my boyfriend, whether we’re exploring somewhere new or all wrapped up on the sofa watching a film (he’ll also humour me by exploring quite a lot of museums too). We’re also learning to dance (he’s better than me). I also love a good catch up with my Mum, which generally involves shopping, coffee shops and attempting to cook a very complicated sounding dinner (mostly successfully).
