In 2018 we asked consultants Ann Sumner and Chezzy Brownen to explore how we might make Derby Museums the world Centre for Excellence for the artist Joseph Wright of Derby.  Derby Museums has the worlds largest collection of work by Wright and is Designated a collection of national significance by Arts Council England. The report suggests a range of actions including:

The expansion and development of the current Derby Museum and Art Gallery to incorporate the former Central Library to form the Joseph Wright House of Art and Science.

  • The development of significant international partnerships and touring exhibitions especially in North America.
  • New interdisciplinary University of Derby partnership to encourage teaching of the Enlightenment period.
  • Creation of a new on-line platform to showcase Derby Museums collections and point researchers to other holdings.
