During 2016, the ground floor of the Silk Mill is open twice a week as an experimental ‘Project Lab’ for the Museum of Making. Our Project Lab includes fully fitted workshop spaces where we are prototyping how we might ‘make’ the Museum of Making!
What can I see?
Our workshops are fully fitted with traditional and digital fabrication equipment that are being used to develop skills and prototype fixtures and fittings for the Derby Silk Mill - Museum of Making.
What can I do?
Discover the artefacts we are processing as we prepare to move them out of the building before the capital works begin. Perhaps you worked in a local manufacturing industry and these artefacts were part of your working life? We love learning more about the stories behind our collections.
Take part in our regular workshop activities where we trial STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) Powered Making learning programmes with our regular Artists/Makers-in-Residence and the project design team.
Volunteer to be part of ‘making’ Derby Silk Mill - Museum of Making! Develop and share new skills and experiences by getting hands on with the collections; learning about tools and techniques; testing ideas through learning and engagement programmes. Regular volunteering opportunities are posted in our ‘Get Involved’ section but you can also drop in when we are open, or email Gemma Hopkins firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more about our co-production volunteer programme. We would love to hear from you!
