Bonnie Prince Charlie Gallery
The Bonnie Prince Charlie Gallery features a room depicting the night that Charles Edward Stuart stayed at Exeter House in December 1745 before the retreat of the Jacobite army to Scotland and its defeat at Culloden in 1746.
What can I see?
Highlights of the room include the original panelling from the drawing room in the now demolished Exeter House where the Jacobite Council of War was held on 5 December 1745. Other items include furniture and paintings to recreate the room as it might have looked in 1745.
What can I do?
On entering the room you will see the figure of the Prince and hear him tell the story of his attempt to take the British throne and the condition of his army by the time it reached Derby.
What can I learn?
The gallery tells the story of the attempts by the House of Stuart to regain the British throne, the events of the Jacobite Rebellion and why Derby was such an important part of the story.
