Taken Twice Jewellery by Laurie McCausland

Find out more about Taken Twice Jewellery by Laurie McCausland…

Laurie McCausland is the designer and maker for Taken Twice Jewellery. She works from her attic studio in a small Derbyshire village with views over fields that are rich with history and wildlife. Laurie’s aesthetic is influenced and inspired by many sources, but mostly in a firm attachment to nature and our connection to it. This includes its history and the journeys that have been and have yet to take place within it. Laurie is also inspired by the physical properties of the materials she works with – where they are from and what magic and meaning they might contain.

The process and techniques Laurie uses to create her jewellery – from hammering, forming, stamping and embellishing – result in hand-formed, one-off pieces, capturing and preserving the textures, colours and properties of the object with a considered approach to functionality and wearability. The materials she works with range from mixed metal, wood, ancient coins, sea-glass and pebbles and semi-precious stones like opals and Blue John Fluorite – with the latter only being found here in Derbyshire.

Laurie has been making silver, brass and occasionally gold jewellery since 2016. With a background in Fine Art, she graduated from Birmingham City University where she specialised in large sculptural installation within the landscape. After a creative hiatus working within the charity sector, and acknowledging her ever-present passion for creativity, she has not looked back since. She loves creating pieces to this much smaller scale with the knowledge that the creation will offer the wearer small moments of joy as they put it on and catch glimpses of themselves wearing it throughout the day.
