Session Description: Why are the paintings of Derby’s own Joseph Wright world renowned? After this session your pupils will be in no doubt! Students will be introduced to Joseph’s life and his artwork. They’ll search for the meanings, hidden messages and look at the intricate details in Joseph’s paintings. Students will then study some of his preliminary sketches and develop some shading techniques. Finally, they’ll apply those skills to produce their very own masterpiece! (A self-portrait in Joseph’s signature ‘chiaroscuro’ style.)
