We are the charitable trust, managing Derby’s three museums and five stores with their extensive and world-renowned collections. Our change programme focuses first on transforming our customers’ experience of these significant collections. We have been part of and committed to the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) for a number of years. In recent years the Leicestershire and Rutland Finds Liaison Officer has been employed through us.
The Role
The Finds Liaison Officer is a full time Job covering the Maternity Leave of the current postholder.
Finds can come from all periods and be made from a variety of materials. Although finds mostly come from Leicestershire and Rutland they sometimes come from further afield. Recording needs to be accurate and consistent. Records are made onto to the online PAS database and include measurements, text descriptions and photographs. The Finds Liaison Officer may also require assistance in outreach activities that involve speaking to the public.
The successful candidate will be an archaeologist with experience of identifying archaeological finds. The ideal candidate will have experience of using databases and manipulating photographs. Knowledge of the scheme and Treasure Act is expected. For the Finds Liaison Officer it is expected that the experience of identifying archaeological finds is more prolonged and extensive. The Finds Liaison Officer is also expected to have experience of preparing reports and publications and in preparing and presenting at sector and public facing events.
The job will be based at Rutland County Museum, Catmos Street, Oakham, LE15 6HW.
The Person
You will have an eye for detail and have a good understanding of archaeological finds. You will be a good team player, enjoy accurate recording and a good communicator. It would be an advantage if the Finds Liaison Officer had experience of line management.
Salary: £24 064 – £25 675
Contract Type: Maternity cover, 37 hours per week
